South Jordan, Utah
One of Utah's fastest-growing cities: Daybreak, the Jordan River corridor, three TRAX stations, and 35+ parks.
South Jordan is a city of roughly 87,600 residents in Salt Lake County, one of the fastest-growing communities along the Wasatch Front. It spans two very different kinds of places: the western half is home to Daybreak, Utah's largest master-planned community, while the eastern half holds established neighborhoods, the Jordan River corridor, and the city's historic core. With three UTA TRAX Red Line stations, more than 35 city parks, and Jordan School District schools, South Jordan stands on its own as a complete place to live, work, and commute from.
Amenities & Lifestyle
Jordan River Corridor
About 3.5 miles of the regional Jordan River Parkway run through South Jordan, part of one of the longest paved urban trail systems in the United States. Riverfront parks, fishing ponds, and 250+ acres of natural open space line the corridor.
Parks & Recreation
More than 35 city parks plus two county parks, sports fields, playgrounds, and the South Jordan Fitness and Recreation Center with swimming, tennis, and year-round programs. The Gale Center Museum tells the city's history.
Daybreak
The western half of South Jordan is Daybreak, with its 67-acre Oquirrh Lake, 50+ miles of trails, Downtown Daybreak shops and restaurants, and the Salt Lake Bees' new ballpark. See the full Daybreak guide.
Events & Community Life
South Jordan hosts SoJo Summerfest, a farmers market, holiday events, and year-round recreation programs. The city's community calendar keeps families busy from spring through winter.
Schools & Community
Schools
South Jordan is served by the Jordan School District, one of Utah's largest districts, serving more than 55,000 students across roughly 67 schools in South Jordan, Bluffdale, Herriman, Riverton, and West Jordan. The district includes Daybreak Elementary within the community, plus popular middle and high schools across the city. Charter options such as Early Light Academy are also nearby.
Community & Recreation
South Jordan runs its own recreation programs through the South Jordan Fitness and Recreation Center, and its parks division maintains more than 35 parks, sports fields, and trailheads across the city. Neighborhoods east of Daybreak are generally governed by individual HOAs, while Daybreak has its own master association with amenities and lake maintenance.
Commute & Transit
How long is the drive to downtown Salt Lake City?
South Jordan sits roughly 15 to 20 miles south of downtown Salt Lake City. Typical drive times run about 25 to 40 minutes via I-15, Bangerter Highway, or Mountain View Corridor, depending on traffic and where in the city you start. The Silicon Slopes tech corridor in Lehi and Draper is a short commute in the opposite direction, which is why South Jordan is popular with tech workers.
Which TRAX Red Line stations serve South Jordan?
South Jordan has three UTA TRAX Red Line stations: South Jordan Parkway, South Jordan Downtown (opened March 2025 near the ballpark at America First Square), and Daybreak Parkway, the line's southwestern terminus. The Red Line runs from the University of Utah through downtown Salt Lake City to Daybreak Parkway, with trains about every 15 minutes on weekdays. The ride from South Jordan to downtown Salt Lake City takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes.
